Bible To Be Banned As Hate Speech?
December 21, 2004
by Sher Zieve
On 30 April 2004 Canada passed into law an amendment to its ‘genocide and hate crimes’ legislation, with bill C-250. With C-250, sexual orientation has now been placed in a “protected class” and any and all negative public expression against said orientations will no longer be accepted. If convicted of this public expression, individuals will face up to 5 years in prison. This bill’s initial preparation was largely advanced due to Christian clergy and lay members quoting from the Bible against homosexuality. However, as the Canadian province of Quebec has provided safe haven for the group NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association), it also appears that pedophiles are included under this Canadian protection. After all pedophilia has been touted, by its proponents, as merely a differing sexual orientation. In Canada, sections of the Bible have been effectively labeled as ‘hate speech’. My assessment is that it will not be long before the Bible’s teachings are so picked apart by Canadian courts that it is banned, entirely.
The Swedish Chancellor of Justice has taken Sweden’s legislation that the Christian Bible is hate speech, to heart and has stated that any scriptural statement pertaining to homosexuality as a sin could result in criminal charges. This includes Ministers speaking from the pulpits of their churches and a Pentecostal Minister is already facing charges from Sweden’s “justice” system. Many other countries, including Australia, are on their way to passing laws that would make publicly quoting specific Bible passages a crime; punishable by fines, jail time or both. And, now, this insanity of legalizing anti-Christian laws has entered the United States.
The leftist mainstream media have been quite effective in keeping the following story from the public forum. In October 2004, the Christian group “Repent America” protested outside of a homosexual “Pink Angels” event in Philadelphia. They were arrested for carrying signs and quoting passages from the Bible. They were neither violent nor were they inciting anyone else to violence. While the Pink Angels blocked the Christians’ passage to the public sidewalk and blew whistles at them, Repent America members remained calm and non-confrontational. I’ve viewed the 7+ minute video, which bears this out. However, although it was the Pink Angels who provided the confrontations, it was the Christians who were arrested. The felony charges against Repent America boggle the mind of any rational person and include: Criminal Conspiracy, Ethnic Intimidation (for quoting the Bible), and Riot. The five charged misdemeanors include: Reckless Endangerment, Possession of Instruments of Crime (“Bibles”), Failure to Disperse, Disorderly Conduct, and Obstructing Highways. Of the original eleven Repent America members charged, six have been dismissed. However, Philadelphia Municipal Court Judge William Austin Meehan has indicated that he views the behaviors as “hate crimes” and plans to pursue it with the full-force of his position and the law. If convicted, the four Christians face 47 years in prison. This is the same judge who, also, ruled that no ‘evangelism’ shall occur within 100 feet of ANY gay or lesbian event. Even though this is a First Amendment Free Speech issue, the ACLU has decided not to become involved in the case. Suffice it to say, the reason is that (if they did so) the ACLU would be representing the side which opposes its own leftist and atheistic viewpoints and agendas. Can’t have that!
This is, yet, another example of the left’s attempts to destroy our First Amendment; effectively destroying free speech and the exercise of religious freedom in the same case. This is, also, another piece of the leftist puzzle that is creating a pattern of rulings which say: “Free speech is only for those who express [our] leftist viewpoints. Others will not be allowed and will be censored.” Unless we stop these behaviors, immediately, we will be firmly at the end game of this country. The US was neither founded upon ‘allowed’ speech for only one side nor the destruction of Christianity. It was founded on principles opposite from those, which the left is trying to shove down our throats. Unless we are willing to live in a society where freedom of speech and Christianity are no longer allowed, we had best begin the fight against the speech and thought police. In Sweden, Christian Ministers who preach unacceptable Biblical passages are already subject to arrest. I’m guessing that Canada won’t be far behind them. Are we willing to face arrest for not being “politically correct”? I’m not. What can we do? Contact your Congressmen and Congresswomen and your Senators. Tell them that they may not be reelected unless they vote to rescind these arbitrary “hate speech” laws and begin to reign in activist judges. Joseph Farah of WorldNet Daily, also, had a good idea when he asked: “Will you come to Philadelphia ?” Actually, it’s an excellent idea. Will you?
