The Men's Movement Scores!
February 4, 2004
-In October, Warren Farrell ran for governor of the state of California, garnering extensive media attention to the plight of fathers.
-The New Hampshire Commission on Men held its first meeting in October, overcoming years of political foot-dragging.
-The effort to help victims of paternity fraud gained headway (www.paternityfraud.com)
-Howard University professor Stephen Baskerville continued to expose the corruption of the divorce-child support industry. Last May, he made the revelation that much of the government's Healthy Marriages effort is really a front to strengthen child support collections (http://users.rcn.com/baskerville/gov_as_family_therapist.htm)
-Glenn Sacks' radio show His Side recently succeeded in pressuring 3,000 stores to remove "Boys Are Stupid" products.
-Men's News Daily continued to climb in the internet polls. At last count, MND was the 21,000 most popular site on the World Wide Web, a major accomplishment, indeed!
And while the men's/father's movement surged ahead, radical feminism appeared to be headed for the minor leagues.
First, the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute published an exposé that revealed how Carol Bellamy's UNICEF now places feminist ideology over the needs of children.
Then, Martha Burk failed miserably in her effort to bully the Augusta National Golf Club to accept female members, despite all the partisan cheerleading by the liberal New York Times.
The most stunning setback for radical feminism occurred on November 5, when President Bush signed the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act. In one bold stroke, the momentum shifted away from the proponents of death to the advocates of life.
But the fact is, radical feminism remains the dominant gender ideology in our society. This is especially true in our universities, the government, and the media. So how does the men's/father's movement hope to take on a gender ideology that is rooted in Marxist-Leninist theory?
In 1991, the Soviet Union imploded and the Cold War ended. The advocates of totalitarian rule were forced to regroup. Rather than attacking democratic, pro-family societies from without, they decided to attack from within using the Trojan Horse strategy.
Hence, the genesis of the Culture War. And with the upcoming presidential election, I believe that 2004 is facing a critical showdown in that Culture War.
This year, our game plan needs to include three strategies to keep our drive alive:
1. We need to get involved politically. We need to convince the politicos that the NASCAR Dads will determine the outcome of many elections. Men need to speak out at candidate forums and join the political parties at the local level.
2. We should demand that the media begin to give coverage to our issues, and to treat gender issues with fairness and balance. We can start with our hometown newspapers and local radio stations, and work from there.
3. We need to leverage our numbers by joining forces with other groups that are dead set against radical feminism. These include religious groups, pro-life coalitions, and conservative organizations.
A number of women's organizations have already launched campaigns to debunk fem-socialism. Now, men, it's our turn to carry the ball.
