Lessons Unlearnt, Part One
September 22, 2004
by Bob Parks
When I was a child, I often marveled at the wisdom of adults. Being one now has become a humbling experience, especially when it comes to those in my age bracket who just don’t seem to be that bright at all.
Okay, I’ve set this hypothesis up. Here we go….
Fruition
On April 21st of last year, I wrote a column entitled “Next Time, Let Them Ask First.” It’s unfortunate that some of what I said before seems to be coming true… again.
I’m growing real tired of the United States going in to help another country that can’t take care of themselves, and our men and women being shot in the back in appreciation. The actions of the growing many outweigh the supposed gratitude we selectively hear about the few.
How many multi-national people who are in Iraq today for the variety of stabilization, economic, and humanitarian purposes need be beheaded for an increasingly ungrateful people. The stories of our being welcomed and thanked are becoming more infrequent while the legacy of Lynndie England and her buds give righteous justification for any murderous asshole with a kitchen knife.
The most recent beheading was issued on the behalf of the non-release of women the terrorists claim are being held at the Abu Ghraib prison. Whether that be true or not, which is currently a matter under contention, since when do Islamic terrorists give a damn about women? Aren’t these the same “men” who keep women covered from head to toe at the pleasure and vanity of her owner, keep them uneducated, and allow them less rights than a dog under their “so-called” law?
One thing is for sure; I’m beginning to question if Iraq is worth saving and deserves their liberation. They’ve obviously forgotten what life (if it can even be called that) under Saddam Hussein was like and they revel in being able to bomb men and women whom I’d be willing to bet, would much rather be home eating barbecue while watching a Sunday afternoon football game instead of living on constant guard in one of our world’s hairy armpits.
The liberation of Iraq is becoming a sore spot with this writer. Not for the illogical reasons that liberals aspire. No, the liberation of Iraq is a sore spot to me because Iraq doesn’t seem to deserve our blood.
I’m beginning to think that not too many places are anymore.
Payback
According to published reports, Iraq’s Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said Saddam’s kinda stressin’.
“He is distraught and depressed. Saddam and his colleagues are not the giants that the media sometimes talks about. Saddam sent us an oral message in which he begged for mercy. He said that they were working in the public interest and did not mean any harm.”
I never thought there’d ever be someone who believes his denials and pity pleas more than Bill Clinton would. Saddam is a first of sorts….
Anyone want to take the bet on what liberal will try and make us feel sorry for the old palooka? We won’t have to wait long. There’s lots of time before November 2nd.
You See BS
I know the left hates being reminded of it (which is one reason why I continue to do it), but the Clinton legacy is alive and well. On Dan Rather’s finest day, he’d never be able to mislead the masses as convincingly as Clinton would. But at least he tried.
I don’t need to retrace the many facts, quotes, statements, and forgeries that the media and the blogs are dissecting at the expense of rival CBS, but there were lessons ignored and mistakes made yet again by supposed adults.
When the Monica thing broke, all Bill had to do is admit to getting a little on the side and he’d survive the couple weeks of Leno ribbing. Instead, he didn’t think he did wrong because federal workplace laws shouldn’t apply to POTUS. He didn’t think we were smart enough to scrutinize his parsing of words. He thought he was too powerful to be messed with.
When the lie becomes a proven entity, he serpentines honesty.
Dan Rather looks into the same mirror as does Clinton. He see himself as a catalyst of the greater good that must be achieved by any means necessary, just as long as any restrictions incorporated into that good don’t apply to him. Cashing in on his crusader status doesn’t hurt either….
Rather is sorry his “credibility” has been damaged and has apologized to everyone, except for the one man whose name he maligned with bogus papers.
I must be coming down with something; I feel no empathy for Rather. He doesn’t deserve it.
The Safest Place In The World… For A Day
The two largest Muslim organizations in America, the radic al Islamic Circle of North America and the Muslim American Society, hosted the "First Time Ever – All Day – Entire Park Exclusively for Muslims!" at the Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey.
The theme park, closed to all but Muslims, came complete with Friday afternoon prayers and the comedy routine "Allah Made Me Funny."
"Alhamdulillah, the entire park is reserved for Muslims only!"
Nevermind the screech that would’ve been heard from the left if any other religious group locked out the general public; Six Flags Great Adventure in Jersey was the safest place in the world last Friday.
You know what I’m sayin’…?
Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You…
There aren’t many times one can safely quote a Kennedy, but JFK’s immortal American question seems to be fading into History Channel status.
Her bio reads, “Elizabeth Weill-Greenburg is a graduate student at the Medill School of Journalism. Her work has been published in "In These Times", "The Nation" and "Counterpunch.org.” She working on a book about military families who oppose the Iraq war.”
With that she extracts these unfortunate quotes from the mother of a slain American soldier. Sue Niederer claims her s on Seth joined the Army, "Not for patriotism."
According to Weill-Greenburg’s article, Seth owed money from college and signed up for the “money and skills that, he was told, would help land him a job with the CIA or FBI -- his dream jobs.”
It’s amazing how the hatred of the left won’t even spare the memory of their own dead.
“Are you worried that Bush could win in November?”
“Extremely concerned. If this country allows him, we are the fools. We deserve everything we get or do not get from him. We are allowing him to get away with anything he wants to do. He flat out lied to us, killing our troops. He doesn't face the fallen family. If this is what we reelect, we deserve everything we get.”
“If you could speak to Bush or members of Congress who support this war, what would you tell them?”
“Trade places with the troops over there now. You go over there. You send your children, husbands, wives. Let them come back in a coffin. Let me know what you think. You aren't worth being called president. You're not even worth being called Mr. Face me, talk to me the victim of your war. But you don't have the guts to do that.”
I can’t understand the grief Sue Niederer is going through, but when she allows future “journalists” like Elizabeth Weill-Greenburg to use her to fulfill a personal political agenda, she’s only emboldening the very people who killed her son. And if it weren’t all about her, she’d see that.
