Religious conservative leader Jerry Falwell is hoping to attract one million members to his newly formed group, The Moral Majority Coalition (TMCC). In a message sent to supporters on Tuesday, Falwell said he is "launching a campaign to enlist the first one million charter members of The Moral Majority Coalition."
"I am asking you to be one of those historic charter members without financial charge by visiting our new web site," Falwell said.
Talon News reported last month that Falwell decided to form this group in an effort to mobilize the millions of evangelical Christians who voted for President George W. Bush on Election Day.
Falwell hopes to implement a three-pronged strategy with TMCC, including getting pro-life, strict constructionist U.S. Supreme Court justices and other federal judges nominated and confirmed, passing a constitutional Federal Marriage Amendment, and electing another socially, fiscally and politically conservative president in 2008 as well as more conservative members of Congress in 2006 and 2008.
A charter member card will be mailed to everyone who registers for the free membership to this group.
But Falwell asks for money to help the organization get started on reaching its goals.
"Because we need immediate funds to launch TMMC and to initiate a nationwide four-year voter registration campaign in 225,000 churches, I am asking you to consider making a secure-online credit card contribution," Falwell asked. "Your gift will assist us in also launching this voter registration campaign designed to ultimately bring ten million new 'faith and values' voters to the polls in 2008."
A membership package will be sent to those who donate that includes a membership card, information packet and two "I Vote Christian" window clings.
Crediting himself for birthing the "religious right" movement in the United States with his Moral Majority group in 1979, Falwell said this year's election led him to renew his original passion to mobilize Christians in the United States to stand up for their faith and values in the public arena.
"The battle is not over by any means. We have thrown down the gauntlet. The left is furious. Everyone now knows that the stage is set for the church of Jesus Christ to turn this nation back to the faith of our fathers and the Judeo-Christian ethic," Falwell remarked.
He continued, "New Supreme Court justices can overturn Roe vs. Wade. The Federal Marriage Amendment to the U.S. Constitution can forever define the family as one man married to one woman. Any senator who opposes this FMA could face the same fate Sen. Tom Daschle experienced," referring to the former Senate Minority Leader who was ousted by Republican Senator-elect John Thune on November 2.
Predicting that more than 40 million people of faith could go to the polls in 2008 to "assure that Sen. Hillary Clinton ... will never be president of this nation."
"Perhaps, 25 years from now, you can show your '2004 The Moral Majority Coalition Charter Membership Card' to your grandchildren and tell them you helped bring America back to her Judeo-Christian heritage," Falwell concluded.
