Another popular Hollywood actress has joined forces with the leftist animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals by appearing in an upcoming series of billboard ads decrying fur and its cruelty towards animals.
Charlize Theron, 2004 Academy Award-winning actress for her role in the movie "Monster," has signed on to be a spokesperson for PETA's new campaign against furs set to debut on the Sunset Strip in the coming months.
"Theron's billboard illustrates that the only difference between your 'best friend' and animals killed for their fur is how they are treated," PETA remarked on one of its affiliated web sites entitled FurIsDead.com. "All animals feel pain and suffer when trappers and farmers break their necks, drown them, or electrocute them for their pelts."
PETA wanted Theron to join them in this campaign to encourage other Hollywood stars to stop buying furs.
Growing up on a South African farm, Theron said she has never understood the appeal of wearing fur.
"Fur isn't necessary. It doesn't make sense to me to let animals suffer for fashion," Theron stated.
Theron joins the likes of fellow Hollywood actress Pamela Anderson who last year supported PETA's push for an international boycott of the popular fast-food restaurant chain KFC because of their alleged mistreatment of chickens.
