Why is Violence Against Men Irrelevant To Amnesty International?

Seldom seen, soon forgotten. -Richard Hilles

The Ms. Foundation states quite clearly that it has been concerned with creating opportunities and providing support for women and girls for the last 30 years. The vast majority of its efforts are in women and girls, helping them develop their voices and skills, so everyone benefits—men, boys, families, and communities. The Ms. Foundation makes clear its specific purpose is to help girls and women, not men. However they do also claim that:

Our work is guided by our vision of a just and safe world where power and possibility are not limited by gender, race, class or sexual orientation. We believe that equality and inclusion are the cornerstones of a true democracy in which the worth and dignity of every person is valued.

Clearly their specific goal is women and girls first, men and boys second. They have the moral and ethical integrity to clearly state their goal and purpose. However, there is an international organization that seems to lack the moral and ethical values to claim what its real goal is.

Amnesty International (AI) claims to be a “human rights” organization. Humans, we must assume includes both genders. However, the truth is that AI in reality is only concerned with women’s rights and it quite purposely ignores men’s rights. If you think that AI is concerned with “human rights” I suggest you look at one of their most recent endeavors here.

This AI report, “It’s in Our Hands – Stop Violence Against Women,” documents quite clearly its intent.  AI is concerned only with violence or other “human rights” violations against half the human race. AI makes it quite clear that it intends to ignore the violence suffered by men. AI wants most people to believe that women suffer more from violence than do men. To establish this misconception, AI simply must ignore the facts. And ignore the facts they do.

There is little doubt that many women and girls are the victims of far too many violent acts against them. However, how is it possible for people who claim to be “human rights” activists to ignore the plight of men and boys and to ignore the violence suffered by men and boys? Irene Khan – a spokesperson for AI – is as guilty as those she claims ignore the plight of women and girls. She, apparently, is more than willing to ignore the violence suffered by boys and men.

An Undisputable Fact

AI can not document a single scientific empirical study or report anywhere in the world that can document women suffer more violence than men. In each and every nation in the world, unbiased data clearly documents that far more men then women are assaulted, beaten, and murdered. Can’t deny it, so AI simply ignores it.

Myth Making

Often, those who claim women suffer more violence than men are involved in a deliberate attempt at being disingenuousness or are honestly gullible concerning the facts.

However, concerning this AI report those involved are quite clearly spreading lies. There may be some at AI who believe that the misinformation it presents as facts are in fact “noble lies,” in an attempt at bringing attention to a real problem. However, regardless of what they choose for a label, lies are lies. What is truly sad is that those at AI are unwilling or unable to understand that they very well may be creating more harm than good for those they seek to help.

By their continued “Chicken Little” claim that only the “female” sky is falling, AI or least some members of AI, document that without a doubt they simply do not care about the plight of males. They have become oppressors of the truth by ignoring violence against males. Because of their complete and total ignorance of the truth they view themselves as liberators rather than oppressors.

Where is the ethical dignity and moral integrity of an organization that claims to be a “Human Rights” organization when it ignores the fact that millions of men and boys are beaten, raped, murdered, assaulted, mutilated and even denied the right to ever exist?   Are not men and boys as human as women and girls?

Spinning the Truth

Spinning the truth is a reality in the world of politics. There is little question that AI is attempting to use its political might to help women who suffer from violence, and suffer from violence they do. However, why must they ignore the plight of boys and men?

Should not true “human rights” activists be concerned with the “equal rights” of everyone, regardless of age or gender? How is it possible for someone to think they are compassionate and empathetic human beings while they press for the rights of only half the human race?

The AI report claims that, “one in three women in the world will suffer violence in their lifetime.” This claim can be attributed to the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and the Center for Health and Gender Equity report, Ending Violence Against Women. AI and this report ignore the fact that when the same methodology is used the number would be essentially the same for men.

The Johns Hopkins report documents that one of ever three women worldwide has been beaten, raped or somehow mistreated. How is it possible for any reasonable and prudent person, or AI, to believe that “somehow mistreated” is the same as someone who has been the victim of a violent act? Even the majority of fundamental feminists rail against such ambiguity in surveys like this.

Esta Soler, a died in the wool fundamental feminist, is the president and founder of what she has titled the, Family Violence Prevention Fund www.endabuse.org. Soler believes that surveys that use Conflict Tactic Scale variables do a disservice towards acknowledging the real victims of violent abuse. There is little to no question that “somehow mistreated” is a variable that even the Conflict Tactic Scale ignores. Apparently AI disagrees.

Anyone who believes that they have never, at least once in their life, been mistreated please raise their hand. Does the number zero ring a bell!

Why Does Amnesty International Hide The Facts?

The AI report notes in the United States a woman is raped every 90 seconds. In keeping with ignoring the plight of men, the AI report ignores the fact that in the United States, an estimated 302,100 women and 92,700 men are forcibly raped each year, according to a 1998 report from the National Institute of Justice and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The AI report does not mention these 92,700 men so apparently it just does not care.

The Los Angles Times conducted a random survey of 2,627 adults across the United States concerning sexual abuse. Data from this report documents that between 10 and 15 percent of boys and 20 to 25 percent of girls report at least one instance of sexual abuse prior to the age of eighteen. No where in the report does AI mention these male victims, apparently it just does not care.

The Full Report of the Prevalence, Incidence, and Consequences of Violence Against Women documents violence suffered by both females and males. This should not be a problem for a “Human Rights” organization, but apparently it is as the report mentions not one male victim.

The findings from the National Violence Against Women Survey documents that an estimated 1.9 million women and 3.2 million men are physically assaulted annually in the United States. Is AI unaware of that or is it that AI just does not care about male victims?

These same findings document that 51.9 percent of survey women and 66.4 percent of surveyed men report being physically assaulted as a child by an adult caretaker and/or as an adult by any type of attacker. Is AI unaware of that or is it that AI just does not care about male victims?

AI Can Not Handle The Truth

The AI report claims that about 70% of female murder victims are killed by their male partners. The AI report makes this claim knowing full well they have absolutely no way of documenting that to be the truth. In fact throughout this report the authors seem little concerned with letting the truth interfere with their agenda.

In the United States females account for only 24% of the total number of homicides victims. Of that number, approximately 30% of females are murdered by a husband or intimate partner. Thus, female intimate partners who are murdered by their husband or intimate partner account for approximately 7% of the total number of homicides. Perhaps AI added the zero for effect!

It isn’t fair to any victims, regardless of age or gender, to fall into the hands of these fundamental feminists who want to play the numbers and statistics game. All researchers and scholars understand that there are lies, greater lies, and then there are statistics.

The Blame Game

It is without shame this AI report simple writes whatever it wants regardless of any verification of fact. Anyone who truly is concerned with “human rights” will recognize this report is not a report at all, it is a fundamental feminist screed.

Amnesty International apparently has no qualms about turning the lifeboat mantra from “women and children first” into “women and children only.” Their only goal is to plant their version of the truth on to the public consciousness and anoint half truths and lies as “fact.” If AI was truly a “human rights” organization why isn’t this campaign one to stop the violence against women, men, girls and boys”

The answer my friend is blowing in a wind created by the arrogance and ignorance of these fundamental feminists who are more concerned with women’s rights than they are victims or civil rights. The fundamental feminists dearest hope is that if no one reads about the violence against men, it will soon be forgotten. Never have so few cared so little about so many. Oh my! What “compassionate humanists” these fundamental feminists reveal themselves to be.

This “Human Rights” organization notes that it is “calling for urgent action to prevent further deaths, injuries and discrimination against women.” This “Human Rights” organization insists that “living in safety is a universal right, not a privilege for women.”

This “Human Rights” organization states that “violence against women is not normal, legal nor acceptable. . .” Apparently this “Human Rights” organization thinks that violence against men is normal, acceptable and should be tolerated” as it makes no mention of a single male victim of violence anywhere in it “Human Rights” report. Apparently AI thinks of men and boys as less than human – no mention of male victims in their report – and hence they have no rights or privileges. I’ll pass this message along to my two sons.
